Solar Shades take the glare out of large windows
The City of Clarksville needed solar shades for their recently built, brand-new facility for the Police Department’s District 1 precinct. The second floor office area was a large room with some of the most gorgeous windows we’ve seen in a long time. Of course, they needed shades for these massive glass walls, so we were honored to put our best foot forward!
The ceiling reached well over 22′ high, and every square inch of two of the walls was nothing but glass. Since the building faces due south, the room absolutely baked when the sunlight poured through, even in the winter months.
“Can you do it?” they asked, knowing that it wasn’t a job for the squeamish. It was a challenge we couldn’t resist. We eventually won the bid, and within a few weeks, we had the shades on hand, ready to install.
Installing the Solar Shades
Then the challenge came — the actual installation! With ceilings nearly two dozen feet tall, and nearly 35 feet wide, we needed to get the product to fit. The South wall needed a configuration of eight shades, while the West was done with four. The largest shades were 12′ long, and 10′ wide. That’s a LOT of material.
We keep a professional installer handy for jobs like this, and it added peace of mind not only to the project manager, but to the officers themselves. This was a job that needed to be done right — the first time.
But WHAT a difference it made! These wall-to-wall shades completely transformed the room, and cut down the heat and glare in a major way. Solar Shades block up to 99% of harmful UV rays, and provide a fantastic layer of insulation as well. Plus, for commercial applications, they are available in fire retardant fabrics.
We even brought a few donuts to share with the officers on duty. Believe it not, that stereotype got completely squashed. No one took any. But they did love the shades!
So whether you’re looking for a way to cut down the glare in your kitchen, or need to push the limits on what we can do, you’ve got it Made in the Shade!
